German shepherd will join ranks of Kronenwetter PD

A German shepherd will soon be joining the ranks of the Kronenwetter Police Department.

Village police said they reached their goal -- raising more than $13,000 for a new K9 officer. The new four-legged officer will replace Chip, who died in March after just two years on the job. Kronenwetter Police Lieutenant Terry McHugh said the dog will lend a helping paw all over the community.

"In 2011, a lot of our deployments with Chip, the K9 from before, were not just in the village of Kronenwetter but were spread out throughout Marathon County," said McHugh.

Kronenwetter authorities said a lot of the money donated to them came from the Greenheck Foundation. The new officer will start training with his handler in September and should be ready to start work in October.
