Leaders at a UW-Stevens Point program -- that helps low income students prepare for college -- are still hoping to keep their program alive.
Back in June, federal funding for Upward Bound ended. The UWSP program had been given half million dollars in federal funding each year. Group officials said the UW system is helping pay for costs during the summer, but they need a permanent solution if they want to keep going.
"It's just a shame that such a program that works for so many hundreds of people in central and northern Wisconsin would all of the sudden after 45 years, you're done and the program dies," said program director Henry Wojnicki.
Wojnicki said he's not sure how long the process will take, but the program will end on September 1st if their appeal denied. Students from 10 area schools take part in Upward Bound during the school year and summer term.
