Back to school shopping

Summer is still in full swing, but we are only about a month away from those three words, back to school.

Area stores are getting ready and lining their shelves up with supplies.

"I like to look for good sales."

"Anything with a good deal."

"If I find a good deal on them I might snag some up."

Melissa Gust knows the first bell of the school year is only about a month away.

"I am back to school shopping for my son who's 13 and my 17 year old daughter," said Melissa.

And she's already found some good deals.

"I found post-its some of the notebooks and actually marking pencils that sometimes is a harder item to find," said Melissa.

She's taking the extra mile and thinking about the more than just this school year.

"A lot of times I like to stock up and have some extras for next year so I'm good on glue sticks but if I find a good deal on them ... I might snag some up," said Melissa.

But Gust isn't the only one looking for a bargain.

"Go to the clearance they have some great deals like 4 or 5 dollars for shirts," said Jamey Devine, a back to school shopper.

And stores are doing their part to compete for the business.

"We are opening up 8 a.m. on Saturday for back to school shopping," said Old Navy Assistant Barb Novitski.

And whether you are out for the deals, or putting things off until just before that opening bell, store workers say they'll be ready with stocked shelves.

Classes in Wausau School District begin September 4th.
