4 Democrats vying to replace Baldwin in Congress in this month's primary election

Posted:

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Wisconsin's two congressional primaries this month feature four Democrats squaring off in Madison and Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Petri facing a tea party challenger in the Fond Du Lac area.

Democratic state Reps. Mark Pocan and Kelda Helen Roys are touting their experience as state lawmakers, saying they know how the legislative process works. Attorney Matt Silverman and businessman Dennis Hall are political newcomers who say their lack of political experience give them a valuable outsider's perspective. They are competing to succeed 2nd District Rep. Tammy Baldwin.

In the 6th District race, Petri is competing for a seat he has held since 1979. He says his priorities include job creation and simplifying business regulations.

His opponent is tea party Republican Lauren Stephens, who advocates making English the nation's official language.
