A group of nearly 100 children learned how to play it safe.
The 18th annual Lincoln County Safety Awareness Camp in Merrill kicked off Tuesday. Children between the ages of 8-11 got the opportunity to practice gun safety, water safety, and learned how to deal with bullies.
Camp director Heidi Duley say the one day event is important for children.
"With this age group of kids, they become more independent and might not listen to what Mom and Dad have to say," Duley explains. "But if they come to a program like this and an officer explains it, it really must be so."
The Merrill Police Department, Wisconsin Public Service and the DNR joined in the days activities. Organizers say they create new programs every year to keep the children interested.
