If you were born on or after January 1st 1773, and you're thinking about hunting for the first time this fall, It's required that you first take the hunters safety course. It entails a few classroom sessions or an online course, and a hands on hunters field day.
DNR Warden John Sinclair says, "Its a good way to get everyone on the same page, so that the hunters that are out in the woods this coming fall are all playing by the same rules. They're all looking out for each other and they're goal is to keep everybody safe."
There are so many different types of game, weapons, and regulations Sinclair says the best way to prepare yourself is either calling 1-888-WDN-RINF to talk to a resource contact, or visiting http://dnr.wi.gov/ for any questions you may have.
Even if it's not your first rodeo, Sinclair says a refresher course can never hurt. "When you're only doing this for a few months out of the year it's easy to get rusty on some of the details."
We all want to enjoy Wisconsin's great outdoors together, so the best way to continue that is keeping in mind that safety is number one..
