It took just two years for the Greenwood/Granton football team to go from worst to first.
G-2 finished the 2009 season with no wins, but in 2011, the Indians had just one loss en route to the state championship.
As they enter this season, they have big shoes to fill. Head coach Chad Hanson is replaced by Greenwood alum Jeff Trunkel.
Also gone are quarterback Josh Harlander and running back Hayden Hinker. Those two combined for more than 2,500 rushing yards and 39 touchdowns. But having gone from worst to first before, this team knows what it takes to get back to the top.
"The hard work that they gained through those experiences is coming out now. Now they know how to be leaders," said new Greenwood/Granton head football coach Jeff Trunkel. "They know what it was like getting kicked. Now they're turning it around and getting it back."
"Just from the 2009 season, most of us were young, we had to start basically over," said senior Kole Hinker. "We have a lot of kids back, we just have to fill some key spots, to better than last year, if not better."
