Marathon Co. leaders anxious to develop landfill soon
Marathon County leaders are anxious to move forward quickly to develop a landfill.
Plans call for converting the Holtz Krause landfill in Wausau into a sports complex. But nothing has happened yet, and some board members are worried the money won't always be available.
On Wednesday, the Marathon County Executive Committee voted to send the issue to the entire board so the landfill can be purchased and work can begin.
"We want to move to get this developed and redevelop a site rather than lose that opportunity, because the ability to work with a difficult site like this doesn't come along every day," said board member Jim Rosenberg. "So this is a rare chance and we want to make sure that we seize it."
The cost of the landfill is $272,000. That cost would be split between Wausau, Marathon County, and a committee of businesses.
