Breanna's Smile Foundation holds third annual event

Breanna Schneller's friends and family remembered her smile and passion for helping the community.

"That's what Breanna was all about, that was her dream, to get everyone involved," said Jackie Kretlow.

In May 2009, Schneller was found murdered in her apartment on Wausau's West side. At the time, she was an 18-year-old senior at D.C. Everest High School. Saturday's event marked the third year that her family held an event to remember her and continue her giving spirit.

"It's been great, each year we try to do something differently from the past," said Craig Schneller.

This year, the event featured a karaoke contest and performances by American Idol contestant William Hung. One of Schneller's favorite bands, Head East, also performed.

"She would enjoy and laugh at how he sings and performs," said Schneller.

Head East has performed at the event for the past two years. Along with the live performance, the group even wrote and performed a song about Breanna Schneller using stories and letters from her life.

"So then, I took a lot of those notes and I put a song together," said Glen Bridger.

Craig Schneller said the Breanna's Smile Foundation continues what his daughter stood for.

"We want to create awareness, create a buzz and raise money," Schneller said.

The event helped to raise money and also provided another way to help friends and family members heal.

"It's a daily thing, some days we have good days, some days aren't so good," Schneller said.
