Ribbon cutting ceremony celebrates new Highway 10

WOOD COUNTY (WAOW) -

The new Highway 10 is just days away from being open to traffic. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in Wood County.

Transportation leaders say it's a celebration of the 23-year long project. The road will finally see traffic from Marshfield to Stevens Point on Thursday.

"For the folks here in central Wisconsin, it's going to be a great improvement over the former two lane highway that served them," Mark Gottlieb, Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary said.

The project cost close to $250 million. Transportation officials say it will cut the hour-long drive from Marshfield to Stevens Point by 20 minutes.

Again, the new Highway 10 doesn't open until Thursday.
