Fence added to overpass to prevent deer from jumping

Along with the construction of a new highway in Wood County comes a new fence for an overpass.

Transportation officials hope it will keep deer from jumping to their death on new Highway 10, just south of Marshfield.

The top of the fence is about eight feet above the pavement.

As Newsline 9 reported earlier this year, two does died after they jumped onto the un-open road. Officials say that wasn't the first time—a prize buck also plunged to his death last winter.

Department of Transportation officials say they needed a solution before that section of Highway 10 opened earlier this summer and they say this was a reasonable fix.
