People in Wood Co. say they will be checking their locks a bit more often.
Two teenagers were arrested Thursday night after stealing ten cars in two days.
"Over the past two nights, our agencies received complaints of stolen vehicles," said Lt. Quentin Ellis.
Marshfield Police said they spotted two of the stolen vehicles and were able to stop and apprehend one of the suspects.
The second vehicle led police on a chase through Clark Co., where the Wisconsin State Patrol and Clark Co. Sheriff's Department arrested the other driver.
Wood Co. Police say it started with some helpful information.
"The vehicle owner was able to provide us with a license plate number," said Lt. Ellis.
Wood Co. Police said the reason for the thefts appeared to be out of boredom.
Of the ten car thefts, Wood Co. Police said most of them happened in rural areas, except for the one in Nekoosa.
"It's time to lock the doors in Nekoosa," said Gordy Freeman.
That's something many in the Nekoosa neighborhood said they will be doing.
"I will lock my truck, and I will take my keys with me, even if I'm stopping for five or ten minutes," said Russ Burow.
For people like Gordy Freeman, who has lived in the neighborhood for 47 years, the thefts aren't such a surprise.
"That's just the way it is and times are getting tough," said Freeman.
But it's not something neighbors expect to see again.
"We have an excellent police department and this won't go on long," said Freeman.
The two teenagers have not yet been charged, but police said they plan to recommend charges.
