High school football kicks off in central Wisconsin

It's one of the biggest nights in high school sports in Wisconsin, the start of football season.
Across the state, fans are getting their first look at the teams.

"There is just something about the start of fall," said Sean Cummings. "The winter sports just don't have that same excitement, but the start of football is the start of the year."

Cummings and other parents were at Thom field on Friday night, as Wausau East kicked off its season against Wisconsin Rapids.

"Could not be prouder," said Pete Lenar. "When you see them, and the football starts, the first kick off, and you see them out there in their nice uniforms, it's an awesome feeling."

Donald Johnson drove from Black River Falls to watch his grandson play in Wausau.

"I hope he does well," said Johnson. "Fun to watch him, that's for sure. Fun to watch the team. I hope the team goes along ways this year."

After a 9 month break, high school football is once again king in Wisconsin.
