UPDATE: Pilot dies in ultralight aircraft crash

WALWORTH COUNTY (WAOW) -

Officials say the pilot of the ultralight aircraft that crashed Wednesday morning in Walworth has died.

The Walworth County Sheriff's Department reports that emergency crews responded to the crash around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Shortly after take-off, the ultralight crashed into the cornfield next to the runway located at W7145 Beloit Road in the Town of Walworth, according to a press release.

The pilot, 61-year-old John Evans, was awake when deputies arrived on scene. Investigators say Evans was able to give a brief statement before he lost consciousness in the ambulance. Evans died at the hospital.

Officials say an autopsy will be performed later this week to determine the exact cause of death.
