Shankland wins Wis. Assembly primary

MADISON (AP) -

State elections officials say a Democratic Party organizer has won a wild nine-way primary for an open central Wisconsin Assembly seat.

Preliminary results from the Aug. 14 primary in the 71st Assembly District showed the race was too close to call. Unofficial returns showed front-runners Katrina Shankland and Corey Ladick, both of Stevens Point, each had about 26% of the vote.

Certified results from the state Government Accountability Board show Shankland won by 44 votes.

Shankland served as a field organizer for the Democratic Party during its failed attempt to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker. She'll face Republican Patrick Testin of Stevens Point in the Nov. 6 general election.

According to his website, Testin manages a mattress store in Plover and worked on U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy's 2010 campaign.
