Brewers' Marcum leaves game with calf strains

Posted:

CHICAGO (AP) -- Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Shaun Marcum has left his start against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday after four innings because of cramping in his right calf.

Marcum was making his second start since missing two months because of elbow soreness. He allowed three runs, scattering five hits and four walks while striking out four. He left after throwing 85 pitches.

Marcum cleared waivers earlier this week, according to published reports, and has been frequently mentioned as a trade target for contending teams. The deadline to add players who are eligible for the postseason is midnight Friday.

Marcum is 5-4 with a 3.19 ERA this season. He has won 26 games over the previous two seasons with Toronto and Milwaukee.
