Every Sunday through the remainder of the high school season, we will recap some of the top moments from the past week in local sports.
We begin with week one of the top five plays in central Wisconsin.
Starting at number five, Colby's Brandon Wickersham had a big night friday for the Hornets. The senior running back rushed for 113 yards on 18 carries and had four touchdowns, three on the ground and one on a punt return, helping lead colby to a 35-0 win over Spencer-Columbus.
At number four, Stevens Point had a chance to take a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick, but Bryce Taylor slammed the door shut. And just after that, the SPASH goalie tries to clear, but it goes off the defender and trickles into the goal.
East went on to win 4-0 and moves to 4-0 in the conference standings.
The Wausau East football team makes our list at number three. The Lumberjacks Cole Nelson threw it up for Graham Rindo made a great catch, stayed inbounds and dove into the endzone for the score.
Number two, Newman took on Athens Saturday. Eric Bychinski threw it up for grabs and Marcus Gabriel used his hops to go up and get it.
Gabriel rumbled 70 yards down to the one and Bychinski would score on the following play, but Athens won 42-6.
Our number one play, we stay on the gridiron. Pacelli faced Amherst and Adam Kluck's pass to the sideline was tipped and Caleb Glennon snatched it with one hand to make the pick.
Amherst rolled to a 38-0 win.
