An Adams County deputy fatally shot a man early Wednesday morning.
According to the Adams County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to a report of gunfire in the Town of Preston between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. They confronted an armed 41-year-old man outside of his home and a deputy fired, killing the man.
The deputy has been placed on administrative leave, as is routine after a shooting incident.
"Afterwards it was found that there were other people at the scene, but no one else was injured, and it was just the male subject that was involved," said Sheriff Sam Wollin.
The Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting. The name of the man has not been released.
