Racing fans packed State Park Speedway in Rib Mountain Saturday. It was the first day of the racing season and a chance for fans to remember racing icon, Dick Trickle. People at the track observed a moment of silence for Trickle. He died Thursday in an apparent suicide at the age of 71. Race organizers said the event brought in more than 1,500 fans to watch the season's opening race and to remember Trickle's successful career."More >>
A string of recent fires in Wausau has authorities concerned.
Tuesday's garage fire was the 11th suspicious fire in two months.
Firefighters say it started back in June when a series of small grass fires were lit along the railroad tracks.
Since then, the problem has continued and caused damage to several properties. Among those were a small fire at Sav-O Supply, a car fire at Randlin Homes and most recently, a garage fire on the corner of 1st Street and Fulton Street in Wausau.
While no one was injured in any of the fires, authorities say they're concerned it could get worse.
"We do have fires that are reported on a regular basis throughout the year," Wausau Chief of Police Jeff Hardel said. "What we don't have is fires that are intentionally set like they have been in the last couple months and to the number that they are."
Wausau police say they're looking at the time of day and location the fires occurred. They say any type of evidence that connects the fires to a possible arsonist could help.
If you have any information regarding any of the fires you are asked to call the Wausau Police department at (715) 261-7800.
