FARC says cease-fire rejection won't derail talks

A spokesman for Colombia's main leftist guerrilla army says President Juan Manuel Santos' rejection of a cease-fire will not derail peace talks next month.

Marco Calarca is a member of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.

He says there are many obstacles to overcome in the Oct. 8 negotiations in Norway, but the rejection of FARC's proposal for a cease-fire when the talks begin is not insurmountable.

Calarca also says the same about the seeming improbability of his group's request for a guerrilla imprisoned in the United States to take part in the talks.

In his words, "there is no problem we can't solve."

The FARC official spoke Friday in Havana in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press.
