Venezuela officials: No sign of killings in Amazon

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -

Venezuelan state television has shown images of a remote indigenous community in the Amazon where officials say they've found no sign of bloodshed despite a report of a mass killing there.

Yanomami Indians are seen squatting and walking around in the village.

Brig. Gen. Jesus Zambrano Mata traveled there with other military officers and journalists. He says that officials have found no sign of any killings and that all is peaceful in the area.

Leaders of the Horonami Yanomami Organization released a statement last week saying visitors to the village reported a massacre of unknown proportions, with perhaps dozens of people slain. The group couldn't be reached for comment about the video Friday.
