Pointer volleyball goes 3-1 on weekend

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team finished the UW-River Falls Invitational Saturday with a win over Gustavus Adulphus followed by a loss to No. 8 St. Thomas.

The Pointers (11-3) finished 3-1 after the weekend's four-game tournament.

Christina Brinkman (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) led the way with 12 kills as the Pointers defeated the Gusties 25-18, 25-18, 25-19. Brinkman also recorded a game-high 16 digs, followed by 12 forSarah Wildish (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls).

Brinkman once again led the Pointers with 11 kills in the second match, but UWSP fell to St. Thomas 25-18, 25-22, 25-20.
Hannah Picel (West Bend, WI/West Bend West) led the Pointers with 13 digs. Alexis Hartman (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) and Brinkman added eight digs apiece.

UWSP served up four aces against St. Thomas, a pair coming fromMorgan Bartkowiak (Slinger, WI/Slinger)Cassidy Kohlhagen(Racine, WI/Union Grove) and Brinkman each recorded an ace.

Hartman tallied a combined 48 assists on the day, 27 against the Gusties and 21 against St. Thomas.

UWSP travels to UW-Eau Claire Sept. 21 for its next game in a conference matchup with the Blugolds at 7:00 p.m.
