WAUSAU (WAOW) -
Future plans to remodel the Marathon County courthouse are up in the air.
County Board members met Tuesday to talk about two options. Each of which include improving courthouse security, increasing the size of the jail and adding more space.
One plan would cost $60 million, the other $70 million.
"While there may not be a need for any implementation for the next 2 or 3 years, there will be one in the next 10 years, so the more we can look forward the more we can prepare ourselves for that kind of investment, and the better kind of decision we're going to make," said Brad Karger, Marathon Co. Administrator.
"We have to be more efficient than we have been and if we're going to ask the people for 20, 30 or 40 million dollars than we're probably going to be looking at tax increases," said Marathon Co. board member Oliver Burrows.
Board members say they've been looking into this project for 2 years. No time frame has been set to start remodeling.
