STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team is ranked No. 24 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III poll, marking the first time this season the defending Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions have cracked the top-25.
The Pointers are 11-3 on the season, and have won seven of their last eight matches.
Team leaders for UWSP include Christina Brinkman (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) with 127 kills, Alexis Hartman (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) with 459 assists, Hannah Picel (West Bend, WI/West Bend West) with 179 digs, Cassidy Kohlhagen (Racine, WI/Union Grove) with 18 aces, and Allison Davis (Rochelle, IL/Rochelle Township) with 65 blocks.
Behind the strength of Davis and Morgan Bartkowiak (Slinger, WI/Slinger), the Pointers are fifth in the nation in blocks per set (2.85).
UW-Whitewater is the only other WIAC team ranked in this week's AVCA poll (No. 13). The Pointers blanked the Warhawks earlier this season, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-20).
The Pointers' next match is Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. when they travel to UW-Eau Claire.
