Rhinelander School District settles lawsuit from custodian

A sexual harassment lawsuit filed against the Rhinelander School District has been settled.

According to a news release, the district's insurance carrier will pay a settlement to a high school custodian who complained about sexual harassment at work.

The custodian worked at Rhinelander High School. He filed suit after he said he was the victim of "retaliatory actions" for reporting sexual harassment at work in 2009.

The custodian said his co-workers frequently showed "sexually offensive images" of women at work, and the custodian complained to management. Following the complaint, according to the lawsuit, the custodian was harassed, given more work, and transferred to another school.

The custodian also claimed he was isolated from his co-workers and management.

The lawsuit has now been settled. As part of the settlement, the custodian will receive a "monetary payment made by the school district's insurance carrier," according to a news release from the district. Officials said no district money will be used to pay the settlement.
