The Walk to End Alzheimer's started in Marathon Park Saturday morning.
People there said it's a great opportunity to meet others affected by the disease and raise awareness about the symptoms and effects.
"We all want a cure for the disease, we all know or love people living with it or have passed away from it, and we just want people to be aware that it's out there," said Lynn Cumberland.
Organizers said they are close to their fundraising goal of $30,000 and expect to surpass that goal as they continue counting donations.
The donations raised help to fund local programs and support area Alzheimer's patients.
An iconic childhood staple for many is celebrating a birthday Wednesday.
