Famous billionaire’s son comes to Wausau

WAUSAU (WAOW) -

The son of a famous billionaire is in Wausau. Peter Buffett is here to celebrate the anniversary of a non-profit group. And he's also here to share a message about how to achieve success.

To say Peter Buffett is part of a wealthy family is an understatement. His father Warren Buffett, one of the richest men in the world, is worth an estimated $44 billion.

"Many people know who my dad is, Warren Buffett, and they think wow you must of had this certain kind of life, grew up in a privileged situation, had all this money, and the truth is it wasn't that way at all," said Philanthropist Peter Buffett.

Peter says his dad is true philanthropist, helping others with his money. He says he's tried to follow in his father's footsteps.

"We're all philanthropists, but it's nice to have money behind that to help out with giving," said Peter.

And that's what brings Peter Buffett to central Wisconsin. He's speaking and playing music at an event for a non-profit group called the community foundation. He's also promoting his new book. And trying to convince others they can build their own success, as he's done.

"I never thought I was entitled to my dad's wealth," said Peter.

Event organizers say it's an honor to have Buffett speak.

"Warren Buffett did not contribute his mass wealth to his three children, instead what he did was he gave them money to become philanthropic with themselves," said Community Foundation Executive Director Jean Tehan.

It certainly doesn't hurt to have the last name Buffett. But Peter maintains, he's done his best to achieve success on his own. And he says he's tried to follow some advice he received from his dad.

"He is so down to earth, and so much about get out there, live your life I support you, it doesn't matter what you do if you love it, do it," said Peter.

If you'd like to hear Peter Buffett speak, that takes place Tuesday at the Grand Theater in downtown Wausau starting at 7 p.m.
