Salvation Army gears up for Christmas campaign

Get ready for a familiar holiday sound.

The Salvation Army is gearing up for its annual Christmas campaign in Wausau, using the famous red kettles to collect donations for its programs.

The kettles will be out next month, but you can sign up to ring bells right now.

Organizers said it's an opportunity to help those in our area who are struggling.

"Without Christmas, without the bell ringing, we would not have a lot of programs, we wouldn't be able to assist those in need," said Lt. Jacob Tripp.

Organizers said this year, they're looking to raise about $160,000.

The money provides meals, housing and other services.

To sign up, you can go to the Salvation Army office in Wausau or sign up online at
