UPDATE - Oneida County approves new full-time medical examiner

UPDATE - The Oneida County board this week approved Larry Mathein as its new full-time medical examiner.

Mathein has been working as a part-time medical examiner position since earlier this year.  That started after the former medical examiner, Traci England, was charged with theft and misconduct in office.

Mathein worked in the Oneida County medical examiner's office from 2003-2009.  The full-time position begins January 1, 2013.

New charges have been filed against a former medical examiner accused of misconduct in office.

Traci England faces charges in two new cases of theft and misconduct in office in Oneida County. According to court documents, investigators say they found a new case of England using body tissue without permission to train cadaver dogs. They say she brought ashes from another body to a training session in Madison and offered them to other dog handlers.

England's attorney tells Newsline 9 the new charges are the same vague attacks as the others. He said there was no motive or intent for England to profit in any way, calling this "a sad misunderstanding."

The prosecuting attorney says the case is still under investigation.
