Fake money circulating in Stevens Point

Police are trying to find out who's trying to pass counterfeit money in Stevens Point. Officials say several bills have been used at local businesses.

Police tell Newsline 9 there are two people in custody on related charges—their names are not being released at this time.

Authorities say the suspects may be using 20 and 50 dollar bills to buy small items, in order to get the most money back in real cash.

"The investigation is continuing as far as who made the bills or who they got them from. We believe there's other people involved. More bills are showing up every day," Sgt. Tony Babl from the Stevens Point Police Department said.
