Just one month until the presidential election. And many women in Wausau
say they're paying close attention.
Rachel Campos Duffy, Congressman Sean Duffy's wife, told supporters at a rally for Mitt Romney that
women are the driving force for the economy.
"The economy affects all of us," said Campos Duffy. "In
some ways it affects mom more acutely, but I would say this is an important
election. The direction of the country is at stake. It's going to go one way or
another."
Charlotte Rasmussen attended the Moms for Mitt event.
Rasmussen says women are a key demographic, because they
often make the family's financial decisions. She believes Mitt Romney has her
best interests in mind.
"We usually pay all the bills," said Rasmussen. "We
decide which movies we're going to, what kind of furniture we buy. We really
do, we really are the drivers of the economy."
Carolyn Michalski agrees that women play a key role in the
economy, but says President Barack Obama is the man for the job.
"I'm truly hoping that he will win this
election again," said Michalski. "I
think we need him for four more years."
Recent polls show Wisconsin women favor President
Barack Obama
He currently holds a 61-36 percent lead over Mitt Romney in
the latest Marquette University Law School Poll.
Michalski says she's not surprised.
"I love the way he interacts with his own wife and his
daughters and I feel very much that he truly understands the important role of
women in our society today."
Campaign officials say there's still plenty of time for both
candidates to woo women voters before the November election.
