Well testing shows contamination in Marathon Co.

Bacteria has contaminated some private wells in Marathon County.

State health officials say the wells tested positive for coliform, which may indicate poor water quality.

It could also mean E-Coli is present in the water--which can cause flu-like symptoms.

Marathon County health officials tested around 1,800 samples of well water--and they say 14 percent of those samples were contaminated.

Health officials say the levels are concerning--but they're actually below what was tested last year.

Officials recommend people who use private wells to test them every year.
