Marshfield Police have officially charged two men who they say supplied the drugs that contributed to a Marshfield woman's death.

Police say Kayla Vanderwyst, 20, died of a heroin overdose in August. Autopsy and toxicology reports revealed that heroin, morphine and THC were found in her system.

According to a news release, Marshfield police have now filed first degree reckless homicide charges against Justin James Drinka, 22, of Marshfield and Trenton Joseph Blume, 23, of Unity. Police say they believe Blume and Drinka supplied the fatal dose of heroin that killed Vanderwyst.

Along with the 1st degree reckless homicide charges, police also charged the two with delivery of heroin/habitual criminality on both counts against Blume and 1st degree reckless homicide/delivery of heroin/drug offense within 1000 ft. of a school/manufacture and delivery of THC/manufacture and delivery of narcotics/possession of drug paraphernalia/habitual criminality on all counts against Drinka.

The two men appeared in Wood County court Monday morning. Justin James Drinka is in jail on a $10,000 bond. Trenton Blume also remains in jail on a $100,000 bond.

Neither defense attorney could be immediately reached for comment.

No future court has been set.

The Wood County deputy coroner tells Newsline 9 a 20-year-old Marshfield woman died of a drug overdose.

Police say Kayla Vanderwyst's body was found back in August, but few details were released at the time.

Deputy Coroner Charles Evans says heroin and morphine were found in her system, as well as recent marijuana use.

Evans previously said there was no evidence of significant natural disease or other significant injuries.
