Local high schools partner up for food drive

Wausau East and Wausau West are at it again.

The annual high school food drive kicked off this week. But, this year the two schools are leaving the competition behind, and partnering up in the fight against hunger.

Both schools are accepting food and monetary donations. They hope to raise 25,000 pounds of food by Friday at 7:00 p.m.

"We'll get a little bit less because it is not a competition and we're working together," Organizer and teacher Lori Williams said. "But, we feel that we will have more quality items and them money we can give to these programs so they can buy what they really need."

All proceeds will benefit The Neighbors Place and the Marathon County Hunger Coalition.

During the past two years the food drive has raised more than 80,000 pounds of food.  That added up to feeding roughly 650 families for close to five months.
