Newman Catholic's girls varsity volleyball team finished with an overall record of 8-2, finishing first in Saturday's Wausau West Volleyball Invitational.
The day-long tournament featured six teams competing in a round-robin format, with each team playing two sets against each opponent.
The winner wasn't decided until the final match of the afternoon between Newman Catholic and DC Everest. The two teams held the first and second spots in the standings, respectively, heading into the final contest.
Newman Catholic won the first set while DC Everest won the second. Though the two squads split the match, the Fighting Cardinals had the best record overall. DC Everest placed second with a record of 7-3, while Pittsville finished third with a record of 6-4.
