Wausau scores two ASA fast pitch tournaments in 2013

WAUSAU - Call it a double play. Two ASA Junior Olympic girls fast pitch tournaments are coming to Wausau in 2013.

The Wausau/Central Wisconsin Sports Authority says the announcement was made this month by the Wisconsin ASA during its annual meeting.

According to a press release, the 2013 ASA Junior Olympic Girls Fast Pitch Softball Class A and B tournaments consist of all five age divisions from U10 to U18. They expect to draw 150 to 176 teams, making up 1,950 to 2,288 athletes.

They estimate the Class A tournaments to bring about $1.5 million to the area. The Class B tournament is expected bring in almost $2 million.

The Class A tournament will be held June 27-30, 2013. The Class B tourney is scheduled for July 11-14, 2013.

In 2012, the Wausau area hosted the ASA Junior Olympic Girls Fast Pitch Class B Tournament. The tournaments are bid out each year.
