Crews fixing broken pipe on Wausau's west side

Crews are working to repair a major water leak on Wausau's west side.

Crews told us they are in the starting stages of fixing a broken pipe that had been leaking more than a million gallons of water a day.

City officials told us normal daily water use for the city is between four and five million gallons.

Officials said they discovered the leak last week and shut the pipe off to stop further water loss.

Monday, crews were surveying the area and setting up for the repair.

"They're getting up the silk fence and getting the dam set up so that they can get in there to excavate the pipe," said Robert Thompson.

Officials said they hope to have everything fixed by Friday.
