Mosinee school bus tips over, no one injured

A bus carrying students to school in Mosinee yesterday morning tipped over on a country road. But school and bus officials say no one was hurt. 12 elementary and middle school level children were on board.

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says it happened at about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday on Cisewski Road. A vehicle had approached the bus from the middle of the road in the other direction, causing the bus driver to move over to avoid it.  Investigators say the other driver left the scene.

The school district sent a letter home for the students' parents, explaining what happened and asked the children to report any signs of injury. Superintendent Jerry Rosso says no one reported injuries. A second bus was dispatched to pick up the students and they arrived at school shortly after classes started.

Burnett Transit owner Joe Burnett says the bus was traveling less than 5 or 10 miles per hour. The driver was not hurt either. By law, the driver was required to take a drug and alcohol test. Burnett says the driver immediately asked to take the test and passed. She was back to work on the route today.

Burnett says the 72 passenger bus had very minor damage, with just a broken mirror and clearance light.
