Athlete of the Week: Pacelli's Jesse Raczek

Last weekend Pacelli's Jesse Raczek rushed for 289 yards on 25 carries, along with 15 tackles to lead the Cardinals in a playoff upset over Wild Rose. Raczek has had an incredibly unique football career thus far and it begins with the familiar faces on the coaching staff.

"It's actually kind of a family thing. My grandpa is one of the co-head coaches here, with my dad being the other head coach, says Raczek.

"Grandpa's been here 50 some odd years. Basically since I could walk, I've be out on the field."

Most athletes have the privilege of playing at least a couple full seasons before suiting up for their senior year, but not Raczek.

"Freshman year, I hurt my back. Sophomore year, I tore some muscles in my shoulder as well as broke the socket joint. Last year, I broke my collar bone into 5 pieces, as well as dislocated my shoulder on the same play and bruised a couple ribs," said Raczek with a grimace.

Finally having the chance to showcase his abilities for a full season has Raczek feeling grateful.

"It's shaped me as a person, the people I've met through my recovery and the people who have helped guide me," added Raczek.

It's tough going through injuries year after year. I feel real blessed to back out on the field."
