Local volunteers took part in the nationwide Make a Difference Day.
Saturday morning, about 250 volunteers joined in to help Wausau senior citizens rake their yards.
Of those volunteers, a number were Wausau high schoolers.
Those volunteers said it's all about bringing people together.
"A lot of the people come out and they just want to give back and just get involved and link our community together so when the younger people are helping the older people it just closes the generation gap." said Katie Spencer.
The event also featured a coat drive for kids and help from the United Way's Hunger Coalition.
Organizers said this year's turn out was a bit lower than expected but said they hope to see more growth next year.
