Merrill woman faces charges in June crash

MERRILL (WAOW) -

Investigators said 24-year-old Ashley Baumann was speeding and drunk when she crashed a car in June, with three of her friends inside. Two of them died.

"The blood toxicology results showed her blood alcohol content at at .15 which is almost double the legal limit," said Merrill Police Chief Ken Neff.

Police said the car was going more than 90 mph on South Alexander Street in Merrill.

"You couple the alcohol and the speed and that's the result, unfortunately, that was a tragic result," said Neff.

The crash claimed the lives of 33-year-old Jessica Hartwig and 31-year-old Misty Glisch.

"You know it could be any one of them that could have been sitting behind that wheel and it's hard to make judgment because it could've been anyone," said Lambert Nardock.

The Lincoln County District Attorney said there was enough evidence to file nine charges against Baumann, the driver.

"The one that gets behind the wheel is responsible for the safety of the others in the car and that applies to Ashley Baumann, it applies to me, and anybody else out in the community," said Lincoln Co. District Attorney Don Dunphy.

As people hear more about the case, they say it's even harder to know what to think.

"I want to support everybody, but yet I don't want to let anybody down by not supporting," said Nardock.

Now, the aftermath of the crash will play out in court as people in the community cope with their loss.

Ashley Baumann will be in Lincoln County Court on November 5th.
