WPS Health Insurance plans to eliminate hundreds of positions, and this will affect its Wausau location.
According to a news release, the company is adjusting its staffing levels because of changes in its government business. One of the company's contracts is expiring, and another contract was not awarded.
The expiring contract, in which WPS served as a subcontractor to TriWest Healthcare Alliance of Phoenix, will affect the company's Wausau and Madison locations. According to the news release, the Wausau facility will remain open with about 50 employees working there.
The company says the layoffs will happen during the next year. Some employees could receive notices this month, according to the news release.
Affected employees will receive a severance package, company officials said.
