Voter turnout in Marathon County

WAUSAU (WAOW) -

Election officials say early voting may have made a noticeable impact on in-person voter turnout in Marathon County.

Officials say they've seen a steady stream of people casting their ballots at Marathon Park.

As of 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, 12,427 votes had been cast.  That's 58 percent of registered voters in Wausau, but lines are not as long as they were in 2008.

"We have a lot of absentee ballots here, about a thousand of those, roughly. So that adds to the total and maybe cuts down on the number that are actually coming in, but it's been steady," said Jack Frederick, Chief Inspector at the Marathon Park polling location.

The polls will remain open until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.
