Thompson gives emotional concession speech

For the first time in his political career, former Governor Tommy Thompson stood at the podium to give a concession speech.

"We fought the good fight and we came up short. But, that doesn't mean we should stop fighting," Thompson told dozens of supporters inside the Marriott ballroom in Pewaukee, WI.

Thompson spoke softly and solemnly as he thanked his family, friends, and everyone that supported him throughout his campaign.

"I'm going to be supporting people who do the right things for the right reasons to build Wisconsin and build America," Thompson said. "I just want to finish up ladies and gentleman by telling you you are wonderful people."

Attorney General J. B. Van Hollen and Governor Scott Walker stood by Thompson's side as he reminded the crowd why he ran for office in the first place.

"I ran for all the right reasons because I care so much," Thompson said.

But despite the loss, Thompson told supporters he isn't going anywhere. And although the former governor won't run for office again, he said he won't go too far from the political scene.

"And until we meet again may god hold you in the palm of his hand. God Bless you, God Bless Wisconsin and God Bless the United States of America."

And with that, the long time political figure in Wisconsin walked off the stage for the final time.
