Outstanding women honored at Wausau luncheon

Wausau business leaders and community members gathered Wednesday afternoon to honor women.

The ATHENA Award luncheon recognized women who excel in their profession, volunteer in the community, and serve as a role model.

Newsline 9's Daniel Woodruff hosted the event. Hundreds gathered to celebrate the role women play in central Wisconsin.

"This is a celebration of women in the workplace and creating opportunities for women," said Jeff Zriny, president/CEO at the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce.

Two awards were presented at the luncheon. Megan Lawrence, general manager at the Wausau Center Mall, received the ATHENA Young Professionals Award.

REI Engineering president Jen Nieuwenhuis received the ATHENA Award.

The Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce sponsored the event.
