Food drive brings in thousands

MERRILL (WAOW) -

For these families help like this makes all the difference.

The New Testament church in Merrill partnered with Feeding America to provide food to more than a thousand families.

"If we had a need and you needed food, you come," Pastor Paul Hohman said.

And, they did come. The food drive was supposed to start at 2:00 p.m. But, when Pastor Paul looked out the window at 12:30, there was a line out the door.

"To know we can help even one family is such a good feeling," Pastor Paul said.

One of those families, The Walters, from Merrill. They say the food they received means a lot.

"I will be able to put that money towards bills instead of food," Tonia Walters said.

Families got to choose from meat and potatoes, to sweets and snacks. Organizers say more than a thousand people took advantage.

"To see the families that come in with their heads down and a frown and then leave knowing they have food on the table tonight is very heartwarming," Pastor Paul said.

And many say events like this help the community come together, to make a difference in other people's lives.

The food drive ended at 5:00 p.m.
