WAUSAU (WAOW) -
The Wausau native credits the Wausau School District for inspiring her love of learning and creative spirit.
Slayton graduated from Wausau East and has worked at Nike for the last 19 years. She's currently the Director of Global Market Intelligence, closely monitoring the global marketplace to help guide the company.
She told Newsline 9 making it big at a company like Nike takes a lot of hard work and determination, both things she learned as a student in Wausau.
"It just inspired my intellectual curiosity. I love to learn, I love variety and I love to learn something new all the time and it was that breadth of education and an innovative education that gave me both the foundational skills as well as the drive to learn more," Slayton said of her education.
She spoke to a crowd at the Wausau School Foundation's "Reach for the Stars" event. Proceeds will supports students and future "Reach for the Stars" grant opportunities within the Wausau School District that create opportunities for learning beyond lesson plans.
