Former Antigo Athletic Director Tom Kislow has been honored as A.D. of the year today at the annual Athletic Directors conference for District 2. Kislow passed away March 2nd of this year, after a 3 month battle with cancer. Kilos family accepted his award as they said he was always very proud of his accomplishments with his students, teachers, fellow Athletic Directors and WIAA Basketball officials. There will be a 'Blow the Whistle on Cancer" basketball tournament at D.C. Everest November 23 and 24th.
High School basketball returns this week and Newman Catholic is making some changes after winning only eight games last season. The Fighting Cardinals finished fifth in the Marawood conference but made it to the Division five Regional final, where it suffered a lopsided loss to Marion.
Head coach Jeff Gress says the team's goal is to place in the top three in what he calls a "very competitive" conference.
Meanwhile D.C. Everest is coming off a very successful season that saw the Evergreens go undefeated in conference play. After a 23-3 regular season, the team fell one win shy of the state tournament when it lost to Oshkosh North. Despite losing seven seniors to graduation, coach Cory Heckel says he has players that have been waiting in the wings to contribute. The fifth year head coach claims this is probably the most skilled team he's had so far.
