Alice Tewes and Molly Loka have a special bond. Molly calls Alice grandma even though the two aren't blood relatives. "I've called her grandma since about the third day I met her."
They met 6 years ago and their relationship inspired Molly to nominate Alice for Jefferson Award. "She changed my life just by being there. She has volunteered and helped so many young people."
Alice says many of those young people entered her life as foster children. "For people to say that kid is in trouble he needs help but they don't help. I don't know how helpful I was to those kids but I tried.
Alice says the decision to help was easy. "I felt they needed something and I felt I could help them."
Alice says that eventually it just became to tough to say goodbye to the children and physical challenges made it difficult to continue her work in the foster care system. Still she does what she can to help those she meets along the way offering guidance and friendship. "I just do it because I know they need help. They need somebody."
