Local teacher wins award for her work

A local teacher has received an award for her work in teaching students about the environment.

D.C. Everest School Forest Director and teacher, Cindy Damrow, received the 2012 State Environment Educator of the Year award Wednesday. Damrow received this award for her achievements in helping the forest program thrive. She also received a $3,500 grant from Cellcom for the school forest program.

"To be named environmental educator is such an honor but it's really I think a combination of a lot of effort by a lot of people in our district our teachers our administrators, it's great recognition and it means that we're really moving ahead with environmental education in doing great things for kids," said Damrow.

Damrow has been teaching at the school forest for 14 years. She says she can't wait to put the grant money to good use.
